God is generally brought up in two major perspectives - The school of people that believes the existence of the almighty, and the school that doesn’t. There’s often heated debate with regards to this topic, understandably so because if god truly existed, he’d leave signs of his existence known to people. The theory of God would be falsifiable, scientifically speaking. However, none of that appears to be the case.

Personally, I believe I'm in the group of people who do believe in the existence of God but not as a real physical force. I think we should not waste time trying to search for proof that God exists, why? Because he is a mental force. God is the supreme mental force that exists in our minds. A guiding force and a sum total of what humanity should be. This is why I worship God and believe in him. He exists in me, and he is the mental voice of reason and the mental compass that will assist me in times of darkness.

The truth is, it is impossible to accurately describe how god looks like because of his abstract and mental presence. We have pictures, symbols, and depictions of deities but they are how we describe them. In actuality, god is indescribable. We are putting together all the virtues and qualities that God stands for and are creating a visual interpretation of him. God is an abstract personification of all the qualities that we humans aspire to imbibe in ourselves.

I often hear scientists dismiss religious and spiritual outlooks in general, and while I do agree that the theory of god isn’t scientifically falsifiable and that there can’t be an entity that can claim to know everything about the universe and more, I do personally think the concept of a god exists to keep us in check and ensure that we remain humble throughout our lives. God represents the upper limit of our knowledge and understanding of the world, and we can never get to that limit because

  • We are mortals. Our own brains can only process and learn so much
  • We truly will never fully understand the universe. Science is never permanent. The laws of science that we follow and know to be true and proven right now may very well be discarded in the future
  • The more we know, the more we realize we don’t know

I also believe god shouldn’t be interpreted in an extremely religious or ideological manner. Belief in god is a personal way of life, and Hinduism exemplifies that out of all faiths. I worship god because I want to follow the values that he embodies and apply it to my life. I worship god because I consider him to be a mental, divine, and intimate force that exists in me and everyone. God is my guide and I do not have to prove that he’s real. There is meaning and reality in the meaninglessness and the unreal
