An IP address alone cannot hold your precise geolocation. At its best, it can only provide an approximate location such as the city you’re living in. However, your exact location can be traced if your IP address is cross-referenced with databases that your ISP maintains
- Dynamic IP addresses (ones that keep changing frequently) make it harder for hackers to trace your location because they won’t have any static IP address to work with
- VPNs mask/spoof your IP, protecting and keeping your internet activity private (this varies with the quality of the VPN)
