Transport Planning

An important process in UAM that focuses on

  • Transport planning comes before land use planning

There are a few considerations in UAM transport

This is a political process. There are many significant decisions to be made keeping emphasis on the general public.

Simulations of UAM access and egress times (A/E) by TU Munich showed no notable reduction in A/E times

  • Transfer between vehicle modes is common in transit
  • Transfer between modes is slower than taking a single mode from source to destination
  • UAM does not offer direct transport modes. This reduces the A/E times for UAM modes, especially in places where existing transport modes are already well-defined and integrated

Adding more modes of transport will increase travel demand → This is called induced demand
