Transport Planning
An important process in UAM that focuses on
- Analysing eVTOL transport operations
- Relationship with existing transport modes
- Micro- and macro-economics of UAM
- Transport planning comes before land use planning
There are a few considerations in UAM transport
- Privacy and safety
- Public acceptance
- Economic relevance
- Societal impact
- Availability of land and resources
This is a political process. There are many significant decisions to be made keeping emphasis on the general public.
Simulations of UAM access and egress times (A/E) by TU Munich showed no notable reduction in A/E times
- Transfer between vehicle modes is common in transit
- Transfer between modes is slower than taking a single mode from source to destination
- UAM does not offer direct transport modes. This reduces the A/E times for UAM modes, especially in places where existing transport modes are already well-defined and integrated
Adding more modes of transport will increase travel demand → This is called induced demand
